Lead Engineer

Full time, East London area.

Playdiation is looking for a remarkable Lead Engineer to join its unique and ambitious games studio in east London. You will be joining at an influential time in the development of our flagship game and at an early and creative moment in our studio’s life.

You will be responsible for solving technical challenges unique to mobile games, including guiding the development from prototypes from early tests to launch; integrating novel technologies from in-house pipeline tools to shader development to animation while maintaining a high level of quality across our technology stack.

Our technology involves lots of novel challenges, from pipeline to editor tools, to optimisation and deployment. We're looking for someone with an extraordinary talent in technical development, with a deep curiosity and appetite for invention. The role involves working closely with a small team (including Nick our technical founder) to develop a workflow and to implement ambitious concepts into an evolving set of tools. 

This person should be confident and detail oriented, with strong code discipline. They should know (and care) about asset pipelines, scripting processes and keeping a growing Unity project in good health. Mathematical knowledge would be useful too. All of this without forgetting that we need to make something beautiful and fun!

Useful technical skills would be:

  • code discipline
  • good knowledge of how to scale a game codebase
  • experience with Unity mobile runtime optimisation
  • asset and metadata ingest and export
  • would know other scripting languages like Python
 

Senior Game Developer, Unity

Full time, East London area

 

Playdiation is looking for a talented Senior Game Developer to join its unique and ambitious games studio in east London. You will be joining at an influential time in the development of our flagship game and you’ll have an opportunity to help shape our output and direction in significant ways.

This is a Unity focused role with a strong emphasis on inventiveness and gameplay, building on top of our core tools. You’ll work with us to develop prototypes that establish input methods, interactions, animations, challenges and storytelling that are most promising and fun. The initial target platform is iOS, so knowledge of Unity’s input and event systems, along with an ability to navigate the limitations that a mobile platform provides.

Core areas of strength we’re looking for are:

  • Touch Screen input methods
  • Object interaction and physics engine work
  • Character control & input
  • Level design concepts
  • Core gameplay loops

Capability in the following areas will be useful:

  • Object and character modelling
  • Mecanim
  • Character behaviours and animation
  • Unity shader pipeline knowledge
  • Good experience with C# and source control

 

Junior 3D artist

Full time, East London area

Playdiation is looking for a junior 3d artist to join us in creating our new game. While we build our flagship title there is a tremendous opportunity for someone to shape the game and grow within the studio. This person will help with everything from prototyping new ideas to polishing and shipping a finished product.

Work will be varied and on any given day could be: simple character modelling, prop creation, re-topologising, texturing, helping with 3D scanning/photogrammetry, scene layout, ui work, match moving and more. We don’t expect applicants to know all of these things but a hunger to learn them and strong self motivation will be you’re greatest assets.

Core strengths include

  • A keen visual eye
  • An appetite for learning new software and processes
  • A thorough knowledge of modelling inside Maya, Max, Houdini or Blender
  • Experience with Unity or other game package

Nice but not essential

  • Coding experience
  • Compositing or visual effects experience
